Life in ON -

Make Yourself At Home

In partnership with LG Canada, I’ll be chatting about my 2021 home renovation/upgrades.

2020 was the year of making my home feel more like a home and 2021 is the year of home upgrades and renovation projects.

Since moving to my apartment in 2014, it’s safe to say that this space has seen a lot of changes (mainly cosmetic such as paint, furniture changes, etc.) This year, it’s time to tackle a few renovation projects and I’m excited to put pen to paper and make my design dreams a reality.

Naturally, I started researching and creating inspiration boards on what I want my apartment to look like post-renovations and well, a key component of the upgrade includes what tech items I’ll be incorporating into my new space. I held off on making any decisions until CES 2021 - the most influential tech event in the world and the proving ground for breakthrough technologies and global innovators such as LG. Since attending the event in-person was not possible, I got the chance to attend it virtually with LG Canada!

While this year may look a little different for all of us, LG is working to deliver an innovative and interactive virtual experience under the theme Life is ON - Make Yourself at Home. This theme couldn’t be more fitting with many of us now spending more time at home than ever before. After going through the virtual exhibit and looking through the new line of products, I wanted to highlight my top 3 favourites that I’ll be adding to my wish list this year, breaking it down by the two most used spaces in my apartment.

SPACE NO. 1 ⇢ KITCHEN

My vision for the kitchen is a clean, minimal design where cleanliness, organization and functionality are the holy trinity. With clutter-free surfaces being key, I want to carry that exact look and feel to the appliances I choose for the space. I’ll be doing a complete appliance upgrade and the new additions to LG’s Home Appliances have my name written all over them.

This year, LG released the InstaView™ Door-in-Door® Side-by-Side Refrigerator and the InstaView™ Range with Air Sous Vide and both feature top of the line technology that has me swooning.

LG InstaView Range with Air Sous Vide

There’s no surprise that I love to cook. Coming from a Culinary background, I’m always experimenting with ingredients in the kitchen and trying out a new recipe. With that in mind, I want a range that can keep up with me in the kitchen while simplifying my process. I had the opportunity to test out the InstaView™ Range with Air Fry with Chef Anna Olson last year and this year they added a Sous Vide function in there - something I’ve been meaning to add to my kitchen gadget collection for the longest time!

Here are my favourite features:

  • InstaView Window

    • Two quick knocks lets you check on food in an instant without opening the door or reaching over a hot cooktop to flip a switch.

    • No more opening the oven door to see what’s inside.

  • Air Fry

    • No preheating needed to prepare guilt-free versions of your favourite recipes. The first thing I plan on making is fried chicken or crispy brussels sprouts.

  • Air Sous Vide

    • Uses precisely controlled low temperatures and airflow around vacuum sealed ingredients that lock in flavour and deliver consistently tender meats, poultry and fish that are never overcooked.

    • This feature will come in handy for so many of my recipes giving me perfectly cooked meals at all times.

LG InstaView Door-in-Door® Side-by-Side Refrigerator

When design meets functionality, it’s a win in my books. The refrigerator is the most important piece of equipment in the kitchen so why not splurge on one that not only has incredible features but is also aesthetically pleasing? Just like everything else in my space, I want my appliances to reflect my personal style and the new LG refrigerator ticks all of the boxes for me.

Here are my favourite features:

  • Contemporary Design

    • Contemporary flat-panel doors with edge-to-edge InstaView™ window that’s 23% larger.

    • Hidden pocket handles illuminate for easy access.

    • It comes in a variety of different colours ranging from your traditional black and silver all the way to green, beige, and pink. I’m eying the beige or green for my space.

  • InstaView Door-in-Door®

    • Easy access to see and reach favourites in an instant without opening the door, reducing cold air loss to help keep food fresher longer.

    • You can knock twice and see inside similar to the InstaView™ Range!

  • ThinQ

    • With LG’s ThinQ® mobile app, LG smart appliances can connect to the app where I can automatically receive notifications when my refrigerator water and air filters need replacement based on average usage periods.

    • With the app, you don’t need to worry about tracking maintenance dates! Anything to make my day-to-day a little easier, I’m here for.

SPACE NO. 2 ⇢ LIVING ROOM

template_159.jpg

Over the past year, my main focus was to bring this space together and I’m happy with how it all came together decor wise. Now, it’s time to upgrade some of the technology in the space starting with my TV. Since I’m spending more time at home than ever before, I want a TV that gives me that ultimate at home entertainment experience. I’m talking about high-quality OLED display, equipped with AI platforms so I can connect it with my Google Home products and more. The product that I have my eyes set on is the LG G1 OLED TV.

LG G1 OLED TV

The G1 OLED TV is the latest addition to LG’s art-inspired Gallery series. If you’re unaware, this series includes a gallery art feature, turning the TV into a work of art when not in use. This results in a refined hanging art style TV with state-of-the-art picture quality, producing the deepest blacks, most realistic colours – providing a discrete yet ultimate TV experience in your living room. Going back to seamless design, I love when technology as simple as a TV can bring so much character to space and serve as a cool design element.

Here are some of my favourite features:

  • OLED Display

    • The performance of G1’s impressive OLED display is further elevated by LG’s α(Alpha)9 Gen4 AI Processor, which leverages Deep Learning AI picture processing technology.

  • Wall-mountable Design

    • Thanks to LG’s wall-mountable design, the TV sits perfectly flat against the wall for a clean look. No more gap between the wall and the tv, just like a picture frame.

  • Premium 4K Model

    • This takes design to a whole different level with an ultra-thin form factor and brand-new upgraded OLED evo display technology, delivering a brighter picture which means that movie nights just got 10x better!

This year’s virtual CES got me excited to level-up my technology game and I can’t wait to potentially cross a few of these items off my wish list this year. If you’re looking to upgrade any of your technology this year, I highly recommend going through LG’s virtual exhibit. There’s tons of new launches and releases in the home entertainment, home appliances and business solutions categories. After all, your home is more than just a place. It’s a place of warmth and comfort that reflects your personal style.
